These creatures have several adaptations, such as large ears, which help find prey; spotted coat, which breaks up the body outline; long neck and legs help seeing the prey in the tall grass; long retractile claws grab and hold the prey hard.

These animals are found throughout Africa; they prefer savannahs, woodlands, red-beds and banks of rivers. Like all Felidae, these creatures are pure carnivorous and their diet consists of hoofed animals, birds, rodents and reptiles. They are solitary and hunt at any time of the day.
